Earlier this year, Stream Financial approached Bloomhill Cancer Care to discuss supporting a local charity with a cause that was meaningful to their business and team.
A cancer diagnosis is life-changing on so many levels and no one knows this more than Stream Financial’s Principal and cancer survivor, Tim van Doore.
Tim was diagnosed with cancer at age 31. Things moved fast – he was diagnosed on a Wednesday and had surgery the following Monday, then commenced chemotherapy.
Knowing the experience first-hand, has fuelled his passion to support Bloomhill and raise awareness so that people on the Sunshine Coast know what is available to them.
Tim’s view was that “it is one thing as a business owner to say that you support your community, but it is another to lighten their load – even for a short time – by walking in their footsteps”
To kick things off, Stream extended an olive branch to support our clients – they provide free consultation to help identify any existing insurance cover that can support them when challenging financial circumstances arise, which is often the case when faced with a cancer diagnosis.
Stream Financial is also working with Bloomhill in developing a financial literacy course for clients and family members that is not overwhelming.
The next phase of their amazing support saw them getting involved with our “Be There for Bloomhill” campaign in June, and then, instigating the fantastic Family Fun Day for Saturday, September 21.
Event coordinator Janis Glassop said the intention was to raise more awareness and much-needed funds for Bloomhill.
Janis worked with Bloomhill staff to create the event and get the promotion out into the community.
“I found working with Bloomhill an extremely positive experience, their open-hearted attitude to all they come in contact with is just amazing,” she said.
“They are truly caring individuals”.
Exhibitors and sponsors all came on board to help ensure the entertainment and atmosphere would be ideal for the day.

An amazing $4,641 was raised, which is being donated to our Carer and Family Support Fund. This will make a huge difference to our clients’ lives.
On the day we saw a steady crowd and so many happy, smiling family faces as visitors streamed through into the Bloomhill Wellness Centre and gardens. The children enjoyed fantastic activities such as face painting, cuddles at the petting zoo, games, aerial acrobatics and more.
“It was so nice on the day to see so many young people also being introduced to Bloomhill,” Tim said.
“This is a huge step towards normalising conversations around cancer, which can only be good for early detection and seeking support not only for those diagnosed, but also for their family and carers.”
Bloomhill’s Director of Advancement Sarah Wetton said that partnerships with businesses like Stream are extremely valuable to Bloomhill Cancer Care.
“Bloomhill fundraises all year round and there can quite often be a misconception that we have teams of staff to make these events happen,” she said.
“The reality is we are a small team of part time employees supported by our fantastic volunteers who work tirelessly all year around to raise money for our charity. Stream took on the lion’s share of making this event come to life during our busiest time of the year.
“The Family Day gave us the opportunity to give back to those volunteers with staff from Stream and Bloomhill giving their time on the day, so our volunteers could take a well deserved break and enjoy the day.
“It was a delight to welcome young families to see first-hand our beautiful Bloomhill grounds in a family friendly fun-filled atmosphere – and reach out to find out more about what we do should they their family or their friends need our support one day.”
