Growing up my mum would say to me most days “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all”. I live my life by this statement and aspire to be kind to others on a daily basis.
We live in a world full of unkind words and actions. It seems every time you turn on the news or check Twitter there has been some awful tragedy or unpleasant encounter. Sometimes that negative noise can drown out all the good in our beautiful world. A smile, a thank you, a or even a wave to someone letting you merge on the highway can make such a difference.
I love making a difference in the lives of the people around me, including my colleagues and clients. Being kind and compassionate can go a long way as life can be hard. Our life stories can be hard. Working with people who have lost loved ones, lost their life savings, or feeling defeated, is hard. Life can be unkind to people just like people can be unkind to people. And that’s why I believe saying something nice and doing something kind can change the world, or a least one person’s world for a day. Like everyone, I have had times of trial in my life. It was the kindness and understanding of those around me that helped me carry on and shaped the person I am today.
